Brazil is among the world's most advanced manufacturers of reconstituted
wood panels. It is also the coungry with the greatest number of state-of-the-art panel plants. With continual investment in technology and automation, its companies are constructing versatile, modern industrial complexes for the installation of new production lines. They are also investing to modernize the
technology in their existing plants, introducing continuous press production lines and adding new printing, 'glue' impregnation, laminating and painting rocesses
.

Manufacturers
Producer companies in the MDP segment have a nominal installed production capacity of 3 million cubic metres per year.
Definition
MDP is a panel made of layers of wood particles, glued with synthetic resin and formed under pressure at high temperature. It is the result of the intensive use of continuous press technology and is one of a new generation of medium density wood particle panels, totally different from original particleboard.
Base raw material
Planted pine and eucalypt wood species are used to produce MDF.
Fibers from these woods ensure the production of a clear board,
highly valued in the market. The choice wood species is
fundamental in order to obtain better agro-industrial productivity.
Characteristics
MDP is a homogeneous panel with great dimensional stability (width, length and thickness), resistant to bending and providing a good grip for screws. It is particularly recommended for residential and office furniture manufacture. MDP's chief applications are: flush doors, furniture sides, shelving, partitions, square-edged table tops, post-formed table tops, lower and upper base and fronts and sides of drawers.
Finishing options
The three options are: Natural, low pressure laminated, and with finish foil.
1. Natural (without covering)
Panels are unfaced and are processed by the user. They can be surfaced with natural wood veneers, or with plastic laminates - PVC amongst others. Another type of surfacing is direct painting or printing on the panel face.
2. Low pressure melamine lamination
Through temperature and pressure, a paper-based sheet impregnated with melamine resin is applied to the MDP, resulting in a panel ready for use. These laminaes can be decorated in solid colours, woodgrain or fancy designs.
3. Finish foil lamination
The specially varnished paper-based surface layer is sealed onto the MDP panel through a process os lamination or pressing under high temperature. Our customers are offered single colour, woodgrain and fancy design finished panels and ready for use in furniture.
Some member companies even offer other finishes such as high brilliance varnishes.
Uses and applications
Because of its properties, MDP is specially recommended for the furniture and cabinet making industry, in the production of residential and commercial pieces of furniture with straight edges, designed in organic shapes that do not require low relief machining, notches or rounded corners.
